Notes on the Brainstorming Session, July 10, 2004

Meeting: Brainstorming Session for SWP Activities
Venue: A Starbuck's in a Megamall far, far away...
Date: July 10, 2004, from 2PM to 7PM
Attendees: Azrael, Burt, Gary, Hector, Manny, Mardon, Meanne, Oneal, Paolo
J, Rain, Rej (alphabetical order yan, ha)
EDIT: plus Ricky and Aids

Brainstorming Meeting Notes:

The group came out with a few ideas for SFCON THREE. These were -

1. SFCON THREE venues. At the top of the list for SFCON THREE venues is
MegaTrade and the Glorietta Activity Center. Locations within Metro Manila
were also discussed, and almost all were discarded, as either being too far,
too inaccessible, too crowded, too unsafe, or not enough foot-traffic (this
included the south area - Alabang, Sucat, etc., Manila, and Metro Manila
north). This left the following venues: MegaTrade, Cubao Expo, Glorietta,
and Rockwell. There was also concerns about doing the venue in an
open-space type location (such as in the second convention) - since many of
the members want to cosplay, being out in the hot sun was not thought of as
a good thing. Still waiting for more input.

2. Cosplay. Important for SFCON THREE is cosplay. In fact, all personnel
assigned to do official duties will be required to be in costume. Again,
waiting for more input.
EDIT: I'm getting a quote by next week for Jedi robes from Madam Malkin's
Robes for All Occasions. (haha!)

3. College Orchestra. It was suggested that an orchestral band be
scheduled to perform at SFCON THREE. At the top of the list is the UP
Orchestra.
EDIT: Other groups are being considered. More suggestions/contacts
welcome. =)

4. Campus/Mall Tour. It was suggested that either a campus tour or mall
tour be organized to promote SFCON THREE.
EDIT: The initial idea is a campus art exhibit tour. Again, suggestions
are welcome. =)

5. Affiliation to an official org. It was suggested that we can attract
more attendees if we put in all our marketing collateral that we were
affiliated to an official international fan org. FanForce, perhaps.
EDIT: We already are, so that's an advantage. =) Working on further
connections. =)

6. Affiliation with trade organizations. The idea to be affiliated with
DFA or something was brought up as a good way to have our event become part
of the official list of events of DFA. However, it was countered by the
idea that DFA would not want to have the con as part of the National
Program, since it is not a Filipiniana event. The alternative was that we
should be affiliated with industry trade groups, and they can make SFCON
THREE a part of their annual program, such as hotel associations, travel
agency associations and the like.

7. Fliers and FAQs. It was also suggested that articles, fliers and FAQs
be sent to local and international fan publications, as well as local
papers, via the net. Whether anything comes of it or not is not that
important, since the effort is minimal. If it does get published, well and
good. If not, then nothing much is lost. Such articles will be good to
drum up some support for SFCON THREE. Timing may therefore be important.

8. Battle of the Brains. We can partner with LG and conduct a "battle of
the brains" type contest at SFCON THREE.

9. Games. Video games can be put up at SFCON THREE, or perhaps even card
games or RPG games. Perhaps AEGIS can be tapped for this.

10. FanForce Announcement. We should request FanForce to announce SFCON
THREE.

Non-Con Activities

Other activities were also discussed that were not related to the
convention, but rather just regular SWP events. These were:

1. A screening of the first trilogy (Episode 4, Empire, ROTJ). Notable here
were the venue of the screening. THX in Mile-Long was thought of a viable
venue, and there were a few facts covered - that THX requires 400 patrons,
that the amount necessary to screen 1 movie once is P25,000 (which includes
the movie license fee). The verdict is still out as other ideas are still
being solicited.

2. Mos Eisley night.

3. Tournament. A group-wide game tournament should be conducted, and members
can use their points for this. The council will announce developments on
this as they happen.

4. Member Kit. The SWP member kit is still in the works. The production of
the IDs were stalled because of some printing problems. But the council
will announce developments on this as they happen.

5. Mini-Eyeball. It was suggested that a mini-eyeball be organized, but
with everyone in costume (such as going to a regular movie screening with
everyone in costume).
